What's wrong with the Rays' stadium plan?

The Association was recently addressed by John Burgess of Preserve our Wallets and Waterfront (POWW). That's the group opposing the Rays' proposal to have our city sell publicly owned land to benefit a privately owned entity. The plan involves landfilling more of our waterfront, to build a new stadium. The group claims this would have a serious impact on our environment, our parkland, our downtown museums, theaters and restaurants, and traffic and parking availability in the surrounding area and beyond.

The proposed stadium compared to existing structures

"I can't form an opinion on what I have right now. I just want to know how much it is going to cost money-wise, and I don't know that yet."  Council Member Wengay Newton quoted in the St Pete Times 4/17/09.

CODE VIOLATIONS

Please e-mail any code violation you see, however minor, to the Neighborhood Association codes representative at codes@westminsterheights.com. The violator will NOT be given your name. Only by being vigilant in this respect can we eliminate problems before they get out of hand and thereby preserve the quality of our neighborhood.

So-called 'tree-line parking' (parking wholly or partly on the grass at the edge of the street, whether trees are present or not) is a violation.

Note: If you see anyone in our area or adjacent areas attempting to sell food at the front of a residential property please act immediately by reporting it to Officer Patterson of the Community Service Squad at 727 551 3183. This problem was stamped out a few months ago but cooking equipment has reappeared in at least one front yard.

PARKING TICKETS

If you park at the side of the road, your vehicle must be parked in the direction of traffic flow on that side of the road. Tickets are being issued to violators. Fines are in the region of $30. Don't say we didn't warn you.
